Kathryn (Vogt) Saxer, 87, of Lakeside, California passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2021. Kay was born in Harrod, Ohio to Kenneth and Diamond Vogt on February 24th, 1934. She was the youngest of her family with two sisters- Mary (McGinnis) and Donna (Snyder). When she was 19, she married the love of her life, John F. Saxer. They were married in Pasquotank, North Carolina on July 9th, 1953. The couple wasted no time starting a family together, and eventually had 5 children- Gary, John, Steven, Ronald, and Patricia. During the younger parts of the marriage, Kay spent much time wrangling up the children while John was out to sea serving in the Navy. They were married for 46 years at the time of John’s passing.
Kay loved helping others, caring for her cats, and playing Bunko with her friends. She had a wide variety of hobbies and talents, from sewing to dealing roulette for casino parties. She loved having fun with her friends and family and lived a very social life. She is known for her strong character and caring heart. Kay spent much of her life volunteering. From PTA and El Capitan High School band parents to working with Girl Scouts and over 60 years with Boy Scouts she was very busy! She sewed all of the BSA Troop 45 neckerchiefs for 50 years, and was the East County Girl Scout Cookie Manager for 40 years! She also volunteered with the Sheriff's department for many years at the Santee Substation.
Throughout the years Kay was honored to receive many awards through Scouting programs, including the Silver Fawn from San Diego County Boy Scouts (1974) and the Honor Pin, Outstanding Volunteer Award, and the Thanks Badge award from the San Diego Council Girl Scouts. However, her proudest achievement was being the mother and grandmother of 10 Eagle Scouts (her four sons and 6 grandsons), and 2 Girl Scout Gold Award recipients (her daughter and one granddaughter).
Kay is survived by her children - Gary (Shelley), John (Paddy), Steven (Kathy), Ronald (Celeste), and Patricia (Les), as well as 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving cat Rascal. Kay is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth (1976) and Diamond (1994), her sisters Donna (1995) and Mary (1997), and her husband John (1999).
