Father Leo Thomas Brogan, 85, of Chula Vista, CA passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025 after a short illness. Fr. Brogan was the eldest of six sons born to Leo and Rita Brogan. He was raised in Hawthorne, NJ attending St. Anthony's Elementary School and St. Mary's High School in Totowa, NJ. Fr. Brogan obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Seton Hall University and his Doctorate Degree from the University of San Francisco.
Upon his ordination in 1967, Fr. Brogan was assigned to the Diocese of Tucson, Arizona. After serving several years as a parish priest he joined the US Navy as a Naval Chaplain holding assignments throughout the world and achieving the rank of Captain. Upon retirement from the Navy he moved to San Diego where he continued his priestly ministry for the Discalced Carmelite Nuns. Eventually, he relocated to Fredericka Manor in Chula Vista where he established many wonderful freindships. It was there that he formed a Catholic Community saying Mass regularly and ministering to many of his fellow residents.
Fr. Brogan is predeceased by his parents; brother, George; and nephew, John. He is survived by his brothers, James; Ronald and his wife, Marusca; Jack and his wife, Patty; Michael and his wife, Ellen; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests that any donations be made to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of San Diego, 5158 Hawley Blvd., San Diego, CA 92116.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 10th at 1pm at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Chula Vista, CA.
The family of Fr. Brogan wish to thank the staff of Fredericka Manor and the Calstro Hospice team for the compassionate and exemplary care provided to him.
