On April 6, 2022, Leona Dupree got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was 97 years old and is now reunited with the love of her life, Floyd Dupree, and many other loving relatives and friends who have passed before her.
She was a devout Catholic born in Effingham, Illinois, and had seven brothers and sisters. After moving to Chicago after high school, she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank and met her beloved husband (an Aviation Mechanic for the Navy) at a dance hall. The war took Floyd to Hawaii, and when he returned, he settled in Los Angeles. Leona followed her heart to California, and they were married in 1949.
She was a tireless worker who built a loving home and raised three children (Mary Ann, Michael, and Dennis). Family was at the heart of her life. She loved gardening (especially tending to her roses), hosting dinners, playing board games, quilting, baseball, and creating arts and crafts, especially with her grandchildren.
Leona was a strong, witty, compassionate woman and a friendly neighbor. She had a wonderfully fulfilled life, and all who knew her experienced her kindness and sense of humor. She will be dearly missed and live forever in our hearts.
