Lisa Marie Sabella Schaefer passed away peacefully at the age of 56, surrounded by her loving family. She fought a long, hard battle with cancer and passed away on July 17, 2021
Lisa was born on September 21, 1964, and spent her formative years in San Diego, CA. She attended Patrick Henry High School and San Diego State University, where she earned her BA in Communications. Lisa worked in banking form 1990-1994 and met her husband, Chuck Schaefer, on October 6, 1989, they were married on September 9, 1995. Chuck and Lisa later moved from San Diego to Temecula, CA in 1999, as their family grew. Together they had three boys, Ryan, Riley, and Garrett. She wanted nothing more than to be a stay-at-home mom and raise her boys, which she did with so much love and happiness. It wasn't long after moving, that Lisa got very involved in the community. She was a room mom, Little League board member, and basketball team mom. She organized and ran many basketball tournaments, and always said she was happiest when she in the gym watching her boys play basketball. She had an open-door policy for all the kids she knew, and they all loved being at her house. Lisa wore many hats, but the one she loved most was being a wife and mother.
Lisa had many hobbies and interests. One of her favorite things to do was spending the day at the beach with her boys; being in the water made her so happy. She also enjoyed decorating her beautiful home, painting furniture, and spending time with her large family. Family was everything to Lisa. She was always a loving daughter, sister, auntie, cousin, and niece.
Lisa was ecstatic to learn she was going to be a grandmother soon. Ryan and Sydney are expecting her grandson, Brody Luka, any day now. Brody will always have his own special guardian angel watching over him.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband Chuck; sons Ryan, Riley, and Garrett; parents Anthony Sabella and Jean Sabella; sisters Gina Sabella (Frank Schulz), Jacqueline Joyner; sister-in-law Lori (Gojko) Milisic; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Derek Anthony Millsap.
Lisa leaves a legacy of being a loving person who touched so many lives. She will be forever missed, but never forgotten, by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 11:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 2802 Cadiz Street, San Diego, CA 92110. Reception to follow at Portuguese Hall, 2818 Avenida De Portugal, San Diego, 92106.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the overwhelming acts of kindness shown during this difficult time, with a very special thanks to Lori Milisic for lovingly caring for Lisa in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity or the Schaefer family.
