Marc Kevin Owen, born on February 14, 1954, in Eureka, California, passed into eternity on August 27, 2024, at 8 PM PST at Sharp Memorial Hospital in Chula Vista, California after a lengthy illness. Marc spent the last 10 years of his life in the Veterans Home in Chula, Vista, California. A dedicated professional and beloved personality, Marc’s life was marked by significant achievements across various facets.
Marc earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Arts and Science, majoring in Criminal Justice Administration from San Diego State University on May 28, 1981. Prior to that, he obtained an Associate Degree from the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California, during the late 1970s. He went on to have a notable career at J.P. Morgan Chase, where he was recognized with numerous Service Star Program Awards, exemplifying his commitment to excellence in service. His exemplary performance earned him one of two coveted spots for Employee of the Year at J.P. Morgan Chase in Rancho Bernardo, culminating in an honor at the Gold Star Banquet held in New York City at the J.P. Morgan Chase Building on Park Avenue, an achievement celebrated alongside his former wife, Wendy T. Owen.
Marc’s professional journey also saw him spending 14 years at General Dynamics in San Diego, where he expressed pride in his contributions to the company until its division eventually moved to Arizona. His time in service to his country is also noteworthy; Marc served in the United States Army from September 19, 1975, to July 25, 1978, as a Specialist 4 (SP4), trained in Small Arms Repair during the closing years of the Vietnam War. He spent time in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia during the Vietnam War Era.. His commitment earned him the National Defense Medal, and he was honorably discharged.
Beyond his professional accolades, Marc was known for his vibrant personality, characterized by a quirky sense of humor and a fun-loving adventurous spirit. He cherished spending holidays in Eureka, particularly Christmas and New Year’s, where treasured memories were made. Engaging in family traditions such as cracking fresh crab legs for crab Louie on Christmas Eve and creating crab omelets on Christmas morning were highlights of his celebrations. He enjoyed visiting nostalgic spots in Eureka and its surroundings, including Arcata and Maple Creek. Marc was also a very enthusiastic 'Sunday morning breakfast' fan. Marc also loved getting his favorite San Franciso salami for Christmas every year.
Marc had diverse interests, notably the collection of old glass apothecary bottles, which he meticulously sought after. His childlike wonder was evident in his passion for comic books and toys, pursuits that always brought joy into his life.
Marc is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Frances Owen and a brother, Paul Owen.. He is survived by his former wife, Wendy T. Owen, who served as his power of attorney, advocate, and caregiver; sister, Chris Owen: brother, Matthew Owen and many nieces and nephews.
Marc Kevin Owen leaves behind a rich legacy of professional accomplishments, cherished family traditions, and an endearing spirit that will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to inspire and evoke fond reflections among family, friends, and colleagues.
