Obituary for Marleen Eva Shook

The San Diego community has lost a woman truly devoted and dedicated: Marleen Shook passed away on January 21, 2017. Marleen was a native San Diegan born on October 25, 1949, attended Lincoln High School and graduated from San Diego State in 1972. Marleen embodied what it meant to be committed to charity, education, and family. Marleen was not only involved with local charities, she was often the leader: The Rady Children's Hospital Charity Ball as both Chairman and co-Chairman; A Salvation Army Auxiliary Woman of Dedication; the La Jolla Debutante Ball Chairman; Voices for Children Makua Auxiliary President; Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary La Playa Unit President; a member of the Wednesday Club; and Chairman of the Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies (MADCAPS).
Marleen was also extremely involved with her children's school as PTG President at St. Charles Borromeo Academy in Point Loma and active with the University of San Diego High School (USDHS) Parent Association. In fact, two times she organized the Red and Gold fundraiser dinner at USDHS, the main fundraising event at the school.
It was her dedication to her faith and church, St. Charles, that made Marleen shine. She was active in the alter guild and as the church's florist up until the end. Marleen attended mass most days, often praying for her family and community. Her family was the inspiration for her charity work and faith. Marleen is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ken Shook; five children: Bernadette Shook, Kenneth Shook, Stephanie Shook, Leo Shook (Amber), and Thomas Shook (Ashley); two grandchildren with one on the way; and four siblings: Stephen Lamprides, Deborah Longmire (Mike), Terry Giacalone (Vito), and Michael Lamprides (Kathy).
Marleen's legacy will live on as a wife, mother, and a woman who was devoted to her community, church and family. She will be missed by all that she touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Charles Borromeo Church or the GoFundMe page to assist her family with the funeral arrangements -
