Mary L Cavanaugh (nee Smart, previously Koykar), 83, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023. She was born on June 24, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Wayne D and Ethel M Smart.
Mary was a devoted wife of 25 years to Ward A Cavanaugh, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and commitment. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and generosity, and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched. Mary attended Northwestern University and later had a successful career as an executive secretary, retiring from British Petroleum. She was known for her love of conversation and enjoyed regular gaming trips with her sister and daughter. Mary's primary focus was always her family.
Mary is survived by her children: Kevin Koykar (Nadine), Jeff Koykar Sr. (Kim), Kristy Sadeghi (Majid), Mike Koykar, and Steve Koykar (Maurice). She was also a proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. In addition to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Mary is survived by her stepchildren Louise Sciannameo (Franco), Mark Cavanaugh, and Duncan Cavanaugh (Mary Margaret), as well as her brother Wayne D Smart Jr. and her sister Susan E Barnum.
The family will be holding a private service to celebrate Mary's life.
