Mary Celesta Ryan was born to Dr. Frank and Mrs. Celesta Ryan on July 18th, 1926 in American Samoa. She passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2018.
She spent her early years in various locations due to her fathers military career at that time. On December 7th, 1941, when Mary was 15 years old she watched as a Japanese pilot flew over a hospital and schools in Hawaii.
Mary attended Punahou, a private school in Hawaii and graduated from Grossmont High, San Diego. She continued her education and received a RN from Mercy College of Nursing and a Masters degree in social work from Catholic University of America.
She had a varied career working as an RN and later as a Social worker. She retired from County Mental Health in San Diego.
Mary's retirement years were full. She traveled all over the world, became fluent in Spanish and interested in Spanish culture. She also served as President of her home owners association.
Mary's Mona Lisa smile and her cheerful personality will be missed by her many friends and family members.
