Michael Bliss, born in Glendale, California on May 26th, 1942 to Donald and Rose Bliss, passed away on April 18th. Michael lived with his wife, Maurice, in La Mesa, and is survived by his sister, Cynthia Bliss, children, Michael, Desiree, Elizabeth and Hunter, grandchildren, Harper, Hunter, Sabine, and Hadley, and stepchildren, Luis and Sasha.
For more than forty years, Michael designed large residential gardens in Southern California inspired by his travels through England, France and Italy. With Maurice, he owned Urban Seed & Flower where they created extraordinary floral arrangements, most recently recognized by the San Diego Museum of Art's Art Alive. Michael had an unparalleled eye for beauty.
Michael loved to travel, from San Gimigniano to Waikiki, most often found in his signature black turtle neck and Polo Jeans. His children often marveled at his flair for uncovering the best restaurants, music and nightlife and were not surprised to learn he was voted best dressed two years in a row at Corona High School. While rarely on time, he always arrived in style and his charm and wit were palpable.
Michael lived an active life, enjoying playing with his children, grandchildren and dogs at the beach as well as rewarding himself with coconut cake. On Sunday mornings, Michael and his wife could be found pruning their rose garden while late into the evening he often sketched listening to classical music and enjoying his favorite wine. Michael lived life to the fullest.
His generous heart, infectious laughter and sensitive spirit will be missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, April 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully appreciated to a memorial fund in his name. Kindly send monies to: Maurice Taitano for Michael James Bliss.
