Friends described Myke as having a smile that would light up a room. Myke was born in Syracuse, NY to Leonard and Margaret Smith. He was a proud Viet Nam era Navy Veteran who served aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Forrestal. In 1978, Myke visited San Diego on vacation; he returned and spent one more winter in upstate New York before deciding that “California was the place he oughta be.” Myke retired 10 years ago from a long and fulfilling career in Facilities Management, mostly in the Biotech industry. In retirement Myke traveled extensively with his wife of 39 years, Kathie Adams and enjoyed gardening, Tai Chi and volunteering at the Balboa Park Rose Garden. Myke was a loving and devoted husband to Kathie, a father figure to Sheila Fisher and “Papa Myke” to Grayden Fisher. Myke was also a fond Uncle and a caring Brother and Brother-in-Law. Myke passed peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by people he loved and who loved him right back.
In lieu of flowers, or memorial trees, if you would like to make a donation in memory of Myke, please go to page: https://foreverbalboapark.org/donate/
You may restrict your donation to “Rose Garden" or select the Unrestricted operating fund which helps support programs and projects that improve all 1200+ acres of Balboa Park, including the gardens around the park. Forever Balboa Park will be grateful for this beautiful tribute, and will continue caring for “Myke's park.”
