Nikki was born in Glendale, California, on April 26, 1943. She passed away on May 16, 2022, with her family and beloved dogs at her side.
She was very athletic throughout life, riding her bike from Glendale to the beach every day during the summer. She was an avid swimmer, played tennis, basket ball, baseball, and volleyball in her youth and was on the Glendale High School rifle team.
Nikki graduated from San Diego State College, began a thirty two year teaching career specializing in fifth grade, mostly at Jefferson Elementary School. Later, she earned her Master’s Degree and became a Peer Coach for Gage and Franklin elementary schools. As a patriotic woman, she instilled the importance of the constitution, and the values of democracy in her students. Many of her students would approach her years later and tell her of the memories they have of different lessons she taught.
Nikki was a proud advocate of the historical neighborhood where she lived. She was on the South Park -Golden Hills planning group in the early 1970s and helped design a logo for the neighborhood. She became a preservationist , keeping the family home and furnishings true to the original 1912 time period.
In retirement, with our son out on his own, she had nothing to fill her nurturing need. As a result, she became active in fostering and adopting older dogs unwanted by most people. Labrador Rescuers, and Frosted Faces were her two main rescues. She devoted the rest of her life to the fur babies.
Nikki was dedicated to her family. Her family was first in all matters. She was especially proud of her son,Ryan, and his accomplishments, and was thrilled with Tina, our daughter-in-law. Her life was complete.
Nikki leaves behind her husband, Therrol Troxel, her son, Ryan King, and her sister, Linda Abbott.
Rest in peace, our sweet angel.
