Patrick Aiden Bergin

January 22, 1928 — March 12, 2019

Patrick was born on January 22, 1928 in Baltimore,
Maryland, grew up there and moved to Ireland with his parents in 1936. While in
Ireland, Patrick attended Christian Brothers schools in Dundalk, Dublin and
Mountrath. The family subsequently moved to Scotland where Patrick continued
his education at the Heriot-Watt School of Edinburgh University.

Patrick returned to the US and worked for GE/X-Ray
before being drafted into the United States Marine Corps. After his Marine
Corps service, Patrick moved to San Diego where he met and married Kathleen in
1954. Patrick commenced work at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft which later
expanded into Astronautics and General Dynamics Aerospace Systems. Over the
years he progressed from an Instrumentation Technician on various aircraft to
Design Engineer on the Atlas Program. After almost 40 years, Patrick retired as
Program Manager in 1993. While at General Dynamics, Patrick also completed degrees
in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State College and a Juris Doctorate
from the University of San Diego.

Throughout his life, Patrick remained devoted to
Ireland and all things Irish. He helped form a Division of the Ancient Order of
Hibernians in San Diego and was an active member of the House of Ireland in
Balboa Park. He was also especially involved with the Irish Congress of
Southern California and the St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival, participating enthusiastically
in the Parade since 1981.

Patrick is survived by his daughter, Patricia, son
William, daughter-in-law, Concepción and grand-daughter, Caitlin, as well as extended family in
Ireland.
