Peter Gerard Brittain

November 22, 1948 — March 17, 2021

Gerry Brittain was born on November 22, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. The summer of 1965 Gerry moved from Texas to Santa Clara, California. Gerry met Margie Snell December of 1965. She was 15, he was 17. Gerry joined the Navy in 1967. Gerry and Margie married February 11, 1969. He was proud of the years he severed on nuclear submarines, particularly his time on the USS Hawkbill SSN 666, “the devil boat”. He left the Navy as a Master Chief in 1979. He went on to teach for the San Diego Community College District for 32 years.

Gerry and Margie’s union created James Kalaka Gerard Brittain-Rasmussen and Laura Marie Brittain. James and Laura expanded this circle of love to include Angelina Brittain-Rasmussen, Avia Brittain-Rasmussen, Diego Brittain-Rasmussen
and Tom Borland. This circle also includes Michael and Debbie Snell, Emily (Snell) Tevebaugh, Bob and Patrice (Snell) Steiner, Rachel Steiner, and Michelle Davisson.

Gerry had a life long love of sports. In his high school years he played baseball, basketball and football. He added
tournament table tennis during his Navy years. Later, softball became a hallmark of his summers.

Gerry loved his garden, orchids, staghorn ferns, poppies and lupines. He delighted family with his daily poppy count every spring. He enjoyed picnics, camping trips, Sunday drives, Stickball Tournaments in Little Italy, U Conn Women’s Basketball, sunsets, watching the rain and morning coffee in the spa with Margie counting the birds who came to the feeders he kept well stocked.

Gerry took his last breath with Margie at his side on March 17, 2021.
