Ralph Deane Hall was born on a small farm in Wellman, Iowa in September 1929. He attended a one room country school through the eighth grade, and then graduated from Wellman High School in 1947.
Deane joined the Army Air Corps in 1947 (later it became the Air Force) and served until 1955. His service included the Japanese Occupation and the Korean War.
He met Lynn Rickey and they married in 1955. They moved to Tucson, Arizona where he started working at Douglas aircraft. Deane left Douglas Aircraft to attend the University of Arizona on the G.I. Bill. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Masters of Education Degree in 1961.
While in Tucson, Deane and Lynn became the parents of Steven (1956) and Kimberly (1958).
In 1961, the family moved to San Diego where Deane was employed by the San Diego School District. He served as a teacher, counselor, Dean of Boys, and Vice Principal before retiring in 1989.
Deane always had an interest in aviation. He gained a private pilot’s license and took family and friends on numerous flights. He served as a Search and Rescue Pilot in the California Wing of the Civil Air Patrol with the rank of Captain.
Deane had a lifelong attachment to the family farm in Wellman, Iowa and made annual trips to visit. These trips frequently became family reunions as other members of the family returned to Iowa.
Deane loved the outdoors and he and Lynn had a cabin high in the White Mountains of Arizona and they often went there for family vacations.
Deane was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Jesse Hall, mother, Meda Elizabeth (Lantz) Hall, and brother, Robert Franklin Hall.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Myrna Lynn (Rickey) Hall, son, Steven Deane Hall, daughter, Kimberly Lynn (Hall) Ehrsam, son-in law, Jeff Ehrsam, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Anaya Hall. Deane and Lynn have four grandchildren with whom they were very attached; Meagan Lynn Ehrsam, Cole Christopher Ehrsam, Anaya Lynn Hall and Dylan John Ehrsam.
