Rick dedicated 20 years of his career to Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, where he is remembered not just for his hard work but also for the smile he brought to everyone around him. Following that, he continued to serve the community by working for the City of Chula Vista for another two decades. His commitment to his job mirrored his loyalty to his family and friends, always finding time to spread joy wherever he went.
A proud graduate of Sweetwater High School in 1975, Rick took immense pride in his family values. He served his country with honor in the US Army during the Vietnam War, a chapter in his life that filled him with pride and camaraderie.
As a father, Rick was simply exceptional. He was a great dad, always silly and goofy, making it his mission to fill each day with laughter. Rick had a unique ability to think of others first, surprising his family with little gifts just because he knew they would love them. He delighted in camping trips, creating beautiful memories under starry skies, or enjoying delicious s’mores around the campfire. He truly cherished every moment spent with his daughters, Natalie and Nicole, experiencing the joy of their company on trips to Mammoth Mountain, San Elijo State Beach, and the Sequoias.
Rick's vibrant personality and love for the outdoors were evident in his hobbies. He loved fishing and camping, finding peace and happiness amidst nature. His creative side shone through as he enjoyed making beaded jewelry and browsing swap meets. Simple joys, like hot dogs and potato salad, made up his favorite meals, reflecting his down-to-earth, approachable nature.
His pride in his daughters’ accomplishments was unwavering. He beamed with happiness as he celebrated their college graduations and successful careers, feeling that the ultimate testament to his life’s work was reflected in their achievements.
Rick leaves behind a loving family who will continue to celebrate his life and the happiness he brought to their lives. He is survived by his wife, Janis Ireland; his devoted daughters, Natalie Ireland and Nicole Ireland; his mother, LeFaye Ireland; and his sister, Donna Macias, and brother, Jimmy Stanley.
