Obituary for Robert Glenn Ammann

On Monday, March 21st, 2016, Robert Ammann went home to be with the Lord following a year and a half battle with Alzheimer’s. He was 92 years of age.

Dad was born and raised in Akron Ohio, the 15th of 17 children. In his early years, he learned to repair clocks and watches in the family business. With the onset of WWII, he was drafted into the army and traveled to England where he served as a cook and baker.

Following the war, he returned to Akron where He met Elsie, his future wife. After they were married, they moved to San Diego in 1950 where he opened his own watch repair shop. However, he soon closed it and went to work for various aerospace companies. In 1987, he retired from Teledyne Electronics where he had helped build the radar on the Lunar Landing Module of Apollo 11.

After the death of Elsie his first wife, he married Doris Easton. They were together for 18 years, and enjoyed traveling abroad. Following her death, Dad married Myrna Baum. They spent four short, but wonderful years together before she also passed away.

We remember Dad as a man of many talents, especially his ability to fix almost anything. Whether it was repairing a washing machine, a clock, or a toilet, he loved to fix things for his family and friends.

We also remember his warm smile and sunny disposition, his ability to make people laugh, and his penchant for baking his famous carrot cake.

But we remember mostly his love of Jesus and the Gospel. He demonstrated that faithfully in his home, through his faithful attendance at the Gospel Hall, and in passing out John 3:16 Gospel Texts throughout the neighborhoods of San Diego.

We are thankful to the Lord for Dad. He was and will continue to be remembered as an example of a Godly man. He deeply loved the Lord, his family, and his friends. And he will be missed.
