Robert Schnepfe Diggs, Jr. of La Mesa, CA died Saturday at home with Jan, Jennifer, and Jack by his side.
Rob was born July 05, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Robert Schnepfe Sr. and Elizabeth Kathleen (Eales) Diggs. He graduated from Nether Providence High School in Wallingford, PA in 1969 and from the University of Virginia in 1973. Rob moved to San Diego in 1976 and was employed as a Mechanical Engineer with San Diego Gas and Electric. On July 19, 1986 he married the love of his life, Jan Bradford Buckley, in Wilmington, DE. Rob became a stay at home dad in 1997 and was active in Jack’s early Cub Scouting years, coaching Jenn and Jack’s AYSO soccer teams, volunteering at Murdock Elementary and Spring Valley Middle Schools, was a member of the Spring Valley Middle School Site Counsel, and was also an active member of the Spring Valley chapter of the Rotary Club. He was an avid boater and wood craftsman. He also enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, and working in his workshop.
Rob is survived by his wife, Jan Buckley Diggs and their two children Jennifer Buckley Diggs and Jack Jacob Diggs. He is also survived by his three sisters, Kathleen (Kit) Diggs deBolster of IJsselstein, the Netherlands, Leslie Diggs Lee of Wellesley, MA, Dorothy Prescott Diggs Mininger of Susquehanna, PA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Schnepfe Diggs, Sr. and Kathleen Elizabeth “Betty” Diggs.
The family will be scattering his ashes at sea on Friday, May 29th and a Celebration of Rob’s life will be held afterwards at the north end of Kellogg Park, La Jolla Shores at 6:00pm. The family opens this time of reflection to all of those whose lives were touched by Rob’s humor, compassion, banter, random acts of kindness, and teachable moments. Please bring your own beach chairs and be prepared to play some volley ball, eat, and share memories. For those of you on the East coast, another celebration of Rob’s life will take place on July 11th in North East, MD. More information will follow.
