Robert L. Horn, affectionately known as Bob, passed away on April 25, 2024, in San Diego, California. He was born on February 26, 1940, in Cimarron, New Mexico. Bob led a remarkable life filled with service, humor, and love.
Bob's life was diverse and fulfilling. After honorably serving in the Navy for over 20 years on three different ships making 4 tours of duty to Vietnam between 1970 and 1975, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Bob then transitioned into various careers working for the LA Times and working as an Electrical Engineer where he traveled extensively, making friends globally. His passion for learning and connecting with others defined his professional endeavors.
A lifelong learner, Bob graduated from Fillmore High School before becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree—a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Chemical Dependency. His wit shone through as he humorously referred to his degree as having a "BA in BS."
Bob's vibrant personality left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He never hesitated to help those around him and was notorious for his playful antics. Whether it was pulling pranks on his loved ones or engaging strangers in conversation, Bob's jovial spirit brightened every room he entered.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob found immense pride in his family. His wife of 63 years, Pattsy, stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they raised their children Leslie (Audrey Andrade) and Patric (Charlene Horn), who meant the world to him. Bob's grandsons Cody & Cole and their families also brought him immense joy.
In his free time, Bob dedicated himself to community involvement by serving on the Board of Directors for his Condominium Association—a role where his exceptional communication skills shone through.
Bob's legacy extends beyond his career milestones; he cherished sobriety for over five decades—an achievement that highlighted his strength and resilience.
Bob peacefully departed surrounded by loved ones who will forever cherish the memories of laughter and love shared with this remarkable man. His kindness knew no bounds, and his love for family and country was unwavering.
As we bid farewell to Bob, let us remember him not with sorrow but with fondness and celebration for the joy he brought into our lives. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy of love and laughter lives on in those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
