Ronald Gerald Ellis

July 18, 1936 — May 14, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald (Ron) G. Ellis announce his passing on Saturday, May 14, at the age of 85. Ron died at home with loved ones at his bedside after a long and hard fought battle with prostate cancer.

He will be forever remembered and loved by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and siblings, as well as numerous other family members and countless friends. Ron was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Margit, and his parents, Gerald and Marie Ellis.

Born and raised in Van Nuys, California, Ron moved to San Diego in his mid-teens where he settled for life. There he raised his family and developed a successful business with his twin brother, Don. As general contractors, they worked together well into their 70's. During his marriage, he also worked together with Margit in their El Cajon restaurant and catering business, in which Don was also a partner. When the restaurant closed, Ron and Margit opened their home to care for people with Alzheimer’s.

In his younger years, Ron enjoyed ocean fishing and spending weekends on his boat with family and friends. Later in life, he took great pleasure at beating the odds at local casinos where his amazing luck became legendary. He will be especially missed by the many friends he made at Viejas over the years, as well as by the special friends he met for coffee at Panera's on weekday mornings and before Sunday services at Journey Community Church.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ron’s name may be made to Mama's Kitchen, 3960 Home Avenue, San Diego, CA 92105.
