Steven Scott Nelson was born on Dec 25, 1979 to Stan and Kathy Nelson. God grabbed him by his hand on November 29, 2020 in San Diego, CA, surrounded by his parents and brother.
Steve grew up in Renton, WA. He graduated from Lindbergh H.S. where he was a tremendous student athlete earning multiple letters in cross country, swimming and his true passion, soccer. He furthered his education and love for soccer at Concordia University in Portland, OR. where he was named Captain and later All-American his senior year. He helped lead his team to 4 conference championships and a national appearance his senior year. Steve graduated with a degree in Business Administration (’02).
While at Concordia, he met and later married (’03) his college sweetheart, Niecee (Madrigal) Nelson. Together they blessed the world with two beautiful children, Sebastian Scott (’08) and Skylar Laine (’14). Steve loved watching Sebastian on the soccer field & his awesome ball handling, skills & determination. Skylar was his “Baby Girl”. He loved her determination in doing something all by HERSELF & playing with her baby dolls. Bash and Sky, your daddy loved you more than anything in this world. Never, ever forget that!
He spent many years working at Cabrillo Credit Union in San Diego where he held multiple positions. Steve led by example & his fellow employees cherished his leadership. It was here he met some of the best friends a man could ever have.
An avid Seattle sports fan, Steve, along with his brother watched live in Glendale, AZ the biggest blunder in Seahawk history!
Steve is survived by his children, Sebastian and Skylar, parents Stan and Kathy, and brother Stuart (Amy), nephew Samuel and niece Sophie, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Waiting for his heavenly homecoming were his grandparents Stanley and Inez Nelson, Arnold and Vivian Engh, and his beloved Aunt Elaine Roberts.
He was a “Simple Man” that always put others wants and needs before his own and never passed judgement. This we have especially seen & heard more in the past days & weeks. He was a huge leader in Cabrillo’s annual food drive. It was Steve’s desire that all memorials go to others that need the help. As Steve has lived in multiple areas in the U.S., we ask that any memorials go to one of the three following organizations: FeedingSanDiego.org, Renton Area Youth Services (Rays.org), or OasisForYouth.org based in Minneapolis. Services are pending due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
