STEVEN CARL THOMAS – 11/28/1960-02/21/2019
Steven Carl Thomas passed away peacefully into the arms of his Savior on February 21, 2019 in Chula Vista, CA from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease. He was 58.

Born in Encino, CA, on November 28, 1960 to Robert Earl Thomas and Shirley Jean Dowell, his family moved to Chula Vista where he graduated from Hilltop High School (Class of 1979). He went on to obtain his Real Estate Broker and General Contractor licenses, and Certified Property Manager, Accredited Residential Manager, and Certified Commercial Investment Manager designations. His proficiency in all things real estate, with specific expertise in property management, made him highly-regarded in the real estate industry, and he was often called upon for consult as an expert witness. He served as Chair on both the San Diego County Assessment Appeals Board #3 from 1986-1999 and the Chula Vista Mobile Home Rent Review Commission from 1991-1993. He self-published the “Security Deposit Protection Kit”, which was written to create a win-win result for both tenant and landlord. As owner of SCT Properties for 36 years, Steve retired from a successful career in property management in June 2016, but retained ownership of his “Professional Landlords” service mark.

Steve and Kari Margaret Curd (Kiernan) became husband and wife at Hotel Del Coronado in 1996, and were married nearly 23 years. They made their home in Chula Vista. Steve loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited Germany, England, Italy, France and China, as well as many beautiful places here within the United States. Steve was a faithful and humble supporter of his church, as well as several non-profit organizations in the community. Prior to, and in spite of his own progressing illness, he cared for many family members and was always there to mentor and assist others. Steve was intelligent, witty, interesting, and just an all-around likeable guy. He had an insatiable love for all animals, both domestic and wild, and loved spending time at the San Diego Zoo. He was not only a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was a loyal son, brother, uncle and friend - and will be deeply missed.

Steve is survived by his wife, Kari; his daughter and son-in-law Kathryn “Katie” and Jeb Moore; his grandson, Mason Moore; his father, Robert E. Thomas, mother-in-law, Dortha Kiernan; brother Robert S. (Dee) Thomas, sister Lori Greenwell, and sisters-in-law, Karen (Anthony) Starks and Kim (Marlo) Overgaauw; nephews, David Thomas and Christopher Hughey (Andrea); nieces, Laura Lockett, Alyssa Cook, Courtney (Thomas) Sewell, Amanda (John) Cloud, Rebecca (Dominique) Cardenas, Amanda Hughey, and Kalei (Andrew) DeVerse, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Jean, great-aunt Lorraine Brost, and niece Megan Thomas.

A viewing will be held at Featheringill Mortuary (San Diego) on February 28, 2019 (4:00-8:00pm), and a celebration of his life will be held at Bonita Valley Community Church (Bonita) on March 2, 2019 (10:00am) with internment at Glen Abbey (Bonita). All are welcome to attend.
