After battling cancer for several years, Susan Elizabeth Legler unfortunately passed away in her home surrounded by the comfort and love from her family.
Originally from Virginia, Susan came to San Diego as a child from a Navy family. She created a home in San Diego, gave birth to five children and taught them integrity, respect for others, and love for all people.
As a child, Susan loved to dance. As an adult, she continued that love with flash mobs at Balboa Park, the Rolling Stones in Indianapolis, and countless other weekends with friends doing the Cupid Shuffle; all while battling cancer. Even during the harder times in her life, when she was in the final months of her fight, Susan still took the time to dance in her chair when music played on t.v. or laugh with excitement at the chance to eat chocolate-her favorite food. Our mom
never let her illness get in the way of hiking, riding her bike, dancing, and working on projects around the house…she even built an entire backyard fence! Her work ethic echoed throughout her entire life. Beginning her professional career as a paralegal, Susan simultaneously raised five children while pushing through school to receive an English teaching credential. Susan would later go on to receive a Master’s in Education, a credential in Administration and a Special Education teaching credential at the age of 50. Susan instilled the lesson upon her children that it is never too late to solve a problem and to always keep working toward the future.
Susan was preceded in death by her mother Margaret Legler and her sister Carol Legler. She is survived by her father, Henry Legler, her brothers Paul Legler and Jim Legler, and her five children, Jenifer, Ryan, Mandy, Kevin, and Emma.
Her favorite color was red and we are encouraging all guests to honor her by wearing the color red. A main course meal and drinks will be provided by family; any side dishes or drinks are appreciated by guests but not required.
