Timothy Doyle Waters, born July 12, 1949 in Eagle Rock, CA to Frances (Keck) Waters and Carl Waters, passed away on August 4, 2024 in La Mesa, CA due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He was 75 years old.
Tim attended Eagle Rock High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically. He loved tennis and - together with his teammates - earned the title of Northern League Champions. Tim graduated high school early in 1966 at the age of 16 and embarked on his college education at Cal State Los Angeles. A proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, Tim formed lifelong friendships that he cherished dearly. The most cherished friendship he made was with a little sister of his fraternity - his beloved wife, Nancy Drolet. Tim and Nancy were married on October 23, 1971 in Alhambra, CA at All Souls Catholic Church surrounded by family and friends. From 1970 to 1974, Tim faithfully served in the United States Navy, reflecting his deep commitment to his country. After graduating from Cal State LA in 1974, Tim pursued higher education, earning a Juris Doctorate from Cal Western in 1977.
For 40 years, Tim served as a real estate attorney specializing in real estate and business purchase and sale transactions, most recently at Higgs, Fletcher and Mack. During his 22 year tenure with the firm, Tim served as an equity partner and on the partner board. He was beloved by his clients. Among his many accomplishments, he was honored by his peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America and Best Lawyers in Southern California, a testament to his professionalism and the respect he earned in his field. His work as an attorney was an immense source of pride and he always sought to serve his clients well. Integrity and honesty were central to how he conducted himself both professionally and personally, and many of his clients considered him a friend.
Tim's greatest joy was his family, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness. Tim was a devoted Grandpa and Papa to his five grandchildren. He treasured the moments spent with them and delighted in watching them grow. Tim will be remembered for his warmth, integrity, love of iambic pentameter, and unwavering dedication to both his family and his profession. His legacy is one of love, respect, dad jokes, and the profound impact he made on those around him.
Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 53 wonderful years, Nancy (Drolet) Waters; his three children Jeff Waters (and fiance Angela Hurtado), Megan Hughes (and husband Carl Hughes), and Shannon Lee (and husband Brian Lee); his five grandchildren Zack, Orla, Clara, Alannah, and Maeve; his brother, Mike; and all of the many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends who loved him.
A celebration of Tim’s life was held at San Dieguito County Park in Del Mar, CA on September 7, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tim’s memory to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. A donation page has been set up in his honor.
