Tommie Lou Willcoxson

November 16, 1923 — February 28, 2024

Our beloved Tommie Lou Willcoxson (née Simmons) passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, in San Diego, CA, at the age of 100. She was born on November 16, 1923, in Pecos, Texas to Thomas and Edna (née Prewit) Simmons. Tommie was the adored wife of the late Robert L Willcoxson and a loving mother to Carol Wootton (Ray Weber), Robert L Willcoxson, Jr (Mary Kay); John V Willcoxson (Florentina), and James S Willcoxson, who heartbreakingly preceded her in death. She is also survived by three generations of cherished grandchildren and her favorite brother, William J Simmons (Beverly) and several very special nieces and nephews.

Others who preceded her in death were her much loved parents, cherished sisters Novella Davis and Melba Smith and adored nephew Robert J Willcoxson, Sr.

Tommie was a graduate of Pecos High School, played clarinet in the band, won best actress awards and had a perfect attendance record. After high school she became the secretary to the commanding officer at Pecos Army Air Field, where she met her future husband while he was getting his wings during WWII.

After marriage they moved to San Diego and there she lived for the rest of her life--raising, loving and nurturing her large and wonderful family.

She had a successful career later in life as a manager of a moving and storage company and owner, along with her husband Bob, of a 7-Eleven franchisee in Lemon Grove.

Tommie loved cooking, family gatherings, playing cards (especially bridge), road tripping, and shopping, but above all else, she loved her family and dear friends.

Her love for her family exceeded no bounds.  She always said without hesitation, that the best part of her life was that of being a mother and grandmother to three generations.  A job that nurtured and sustained her throughout her entire life.

A celebration of Tommie's life will be held on April 29, 2024, at 1 PM at the Lifepoint Church at 5480 Lake Murray Blvd., La Mesa, CA 91942. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Sharp HospiceCare, San Diego (619-740-7400).

Tommie will be so deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, love, grace and smile will always be remembered.  She has left an unforgettable imprint in the hearts of her family and friends and a legacy that will proudly carry on.
