Obituary for Valentine Mendoza

Valentine Mendoza (Guerra)

February 14, 1931
Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Valentine went to Heaven on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 to see her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Born Valentine Guerra on February 14th, 1931 in San Diego, California to Joseph and Ruby Guerra. Valentine was raised in San Diego and lived in San Diego all of her life.

She met the love of her life Robert Mendoza, in 1947. Robert was working for Convair Aerospace when he met Valentine. They dated for two years and were married on August 10, 1949 in Solana Beach, California.

Valentine fell comfortably into the routine of being a Home Maker. She loved cooking, especially traditional Mexican food, everyone loved her Tamales.

Besides her love for cooking she also had a love for singing. She was a Soprano and had a dream to be an Opera Singer. She used her gift of music to minister to others by singing in Church. She and her sister Norma were known as the “Hallelujah Sisters”. After her sister went to Heaven, Valentine continued singing and was in the Faith Chapel Choir for almost thirty years.

Along with her ministry of singing for the Lord, she witnessed to many people about the love of Jesus. She was honored to be the one to lead her Mother in Law and her Step father in Law to the lord, also her and her sisters lead her Mother to the Lord. But that wasn't all, Valentine witnessed to whoever she could, whenever she could; complete strangers, even doctors and nurses in the hospital. She wanted to take as many people to heaven with her as she could.

The highlight of her life was when she went to Israel in 1981 and was able to visit the Holy Land.

Her love and commitment to her family was truly amazing.

She taught all her children by words and example to be honest and not to be afraid to speak the truth, to stand up for what is right and to live life according to Gods word.

We will miss her so much.

The great comfort that we as a family can draw from is that we know where Valentine is.

She rests in the arms of Jesus, the one she claimed as Savior.

She passed away in San Diego, California with twelve family members at her bedside loving on her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ruby, two brothers, Henry and John, three sisters, Evelyn, Savina, Carmen and Norma. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Robert, and their four children, Roberta, Stella, Matthew and Marcus. She is also survived by her children’s spouses and their children, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert and Ruben, four sisters, Elvira, Connie, Marion and Alice.

To a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, we love you and already miss you.

Hold a place for us.

We will join you some day.

Valentine had her priorities right and instilled in her children and others the importance of giving their life to Jesus.

Till we meet again
