Obituary for Velma Louise Porter

Velma Louise Porter passed away peacefully on Dec. 12, 2016 in Sharp Grossmont Hospital.. She was born in St. Louis, MO on July 12, 1921. She lived in Phoenix, AZ until she married Severin Glenn Porter in 1951. They had two sons, Glenn Richard and Steven Charles. During the years her sons were in school she was active in the P.T.A.. She was awarded both the P.T.A. Honorary Service Award and the Continuing Service award for her outstanding service to children. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and worked as a secretary for her dad at Crystal Ice & Cold Storage Co. in Phoenix. “Glenn” and Velma both bowled for several years on the Elks Club teams and she was President of the Ladies of the Elks for three years. Velma’s move to New Frontier Mobile Home Park started her on a new life of fun and travel. Velma’s son, Glenn, predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Della Cole, Steve (Cheryl), grandchildren, Kelly, of Mission, KS and Jason Porter, great-grandchildren Bryce, Aden and Liam Porter of Gilbert, AZ. A memorial service will be held at San Carlos United Methodist Church, 6554 Cowles Mt. Blvd., San Diego, CA 92119 on Monday, Dec. 26, at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in El Camino Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Ladies of the Elks, 7430 Jackson, Drive, San Diego, CA 92119, to be used for the charities they support or Genesis Health care Foundation, 9333 Genesee Ave. #300 San Diego Ca 92121 Attn: Rhonda Gilmore, They do research for prostate cancer and help patience who cannot afford proper treatment and/or medication.
