Violanda Paoletti Cosentino
(Also known as Vi, Violet, Nana, and Aunt Vi) Violanda passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of September 11, 2021. She was 98 years old.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, John Cosentino, wife Charlotte and their children Domenic and Anthony; son-in-law John Neun; granddaughter Lindsay Neun, wife Mindy, and their daughters Makayla and Kaitlyn; and granddaughter Robin Bunt, husband Chris, and their children Cody and Hailey.
She is also survived by her sisters Angie Scampini and Rose Fischer, five grand dogs, and
numerous family members and friends. All of these she loved and touched deeply. Violanda was
preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cosentino, daughter Francine Neun, and sisters Flora
Fleck and Pearl Spinozzi.
She was the first born of five children in the home of her parents Domenic & Helen Paoletti on
March 2, 1923. “Vi” as she was affectionately called by most, was born and raised in an Italian
neighborhood of Chicago Heights, Illinois where she met her husband Charles Jack Cosentino.
Shortly after they married, they moved to California, started a family and bought their first home,
which they lived in for the remainder of their lives.
Vi was a dedicated homemaker, mother, wife, and friend. She was the matriarch of the family
who made all holiday meals, which helped the family stay close. If you knew Vi, you knew the
best cook in town. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious Italian meals for
her family. Her homemade chicken soup, basta, breadcrumbs, meatballs, gnocchi, zugu, and
banana cream pie were some of her family’s favorites and always requested for holiday’s and
special occasions. Vi loved nothing more than having her house full with family and friends.
She shared her love of cooking with friends and taught her grandchildren all of her secrets.
Vi was proud to be a first generation Italian American. In her younger years, she spent a lot of
time in Little Italy and enjoyed weekly Sunday picnics with her Italian friends at Mission Bay.
She had many other passions including knitting, playing cards, and watching sports. Later on in
life, there was nothing that could put a bigger smile on her face than spending time with her
grandchildren and great grandchildren. She rarely missed one of her grandchildren’s sporting
events or her son John’s basketball games.
A visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Friday September 24 th at Featheringill Mortuary. A
funeral mass will be held at 1 pm, on Saturday September 25 th at Blessed Sacrament Church,
followed by a short graveside service at 2:30 pm at Glen Abbey Memorial Park.
