Virginia Ontivers, Great Grand Mother, 97 years old, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Sharps Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California.
Virginia was surrounded by her loved ones as she succumbed to congestive heart failure.
Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1925 to Joseph and Nellie Sikorski. Virginia moved to Southern California with her family in 1938.
During her youth she was introduced by her brother Joe, to his best friend, Jack Ontivers. Virginia fell for Jack, and became a WW II bride in 1945. Jack and Virgie were married for 44 years until his passing in 1989.
As a mother and wife, Virginia raised 5 children, and all were with her when she passed on Wednesday evening. Clearly, Virginia was a spirited Wife, Mother, Grand Mother, and Great Grand Mother. Virginia loved to have gatherings where she relished cooking great meals for the entire family and friends.
Having worked as a data entry clerk for the Army and Navy during WII, she developed skills and a work ethic that carried her into the retail industry during adulthood.
All who recently conversed with Virginia were amazed at her detailed memory, historic anecdotes, her love of birds, and going outside to the Pacific Ocean, Lake Murray, and visiting local eateries. Virginia was also a very skilled driver of her motorized wheelchair. She loved seeing people and places as she rode the San Diego beach boardwalks and around Lake Murray.
Virginia was a lifelong Catholic and attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church, located in El Cajon, California. Her favorite prayer was The Hail Mary.
Virginia is survived by her 5 children, 2 Daughters-in-law, 1 Son-in-law, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She will remain in our hearts forever. Virginia will be interned at the Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma California, next to her husband Jack Ontivers, (Staff Sargent WW II).
