Yolanda Karell Torres was born March 8, 1963, and passed away on August 9, 2023. Yolanda graduated from Calexico High School with the class of 1982. She attended Imperial Valley College and graduated on 1985 as a preschool teacher. She worked at the IVC child care center for many years. She was very passionate about helping youth in their academics and personal life. Yolanda found a way to combine academics and creativity to provide excellent educational support to students. Eventually she started her own business in Las Palmas and Santo Thomas. She had a deep respect for her mother who she helped in support her business to help the family. Yolanda also supported the parenting efforts of her mother since she grew up in a single-parent household with seven other siblings. Yolanda developed a close and deep relationship with her mother during this time and while working together in the family business to help maintain the household. Yolanda was a great daughter to Elisa Torres and an amazing sister to seven brothers and sisters. Yolanda held a very special place in the hearts of her family and friends. Yolanda always demonstrated extraordinary empathy with her family and community. This provided her with the drive to help her siblings and their children during her life. She would commonly tutor her siblings, helped them with school projects, took the time to give piano lessons to siblings, and much more. Over the years, she helped raise and mentor over 30 siblings, nephews, and relatives. Her mother, siblings and nephews/nieces developed a profound respect and admiration for Yolanda for all of her hard work and guidance. Yolanda leaves behind a treasury of beautiful memories. Yolanda’s legacy of love and kindness will forever live in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
